Digital diorama, Dordrecht Museum
- Under: Museums
For the renewed Museum of the city of Dordrecht the team of Dutch Igloo was asked to attract more attention to the famous painting ‘Eavesdropper / ‘Luistervink’ from Nicolaes Maes. We decided to make a 3d-version of the painting using a 2 x 1 meter diorama in a box. With the use of multiple projections on glass plates we made the characters of the painting come to live within the 3d diorama environment. The installation tells the story of the painting in a more dynamic way.
During the opening people were surprised and delighted by the installation as you can see on the pictures.
Visitors of the museum were attracted towards the installation.
The Diorama-box is positioned in front of the painting it is inspired upon.
The painting of Nicolaes Maes shows a servant maid listening in on a forbidden romance during a family dinner.
Within the box you see the painted scene in 3d, where projected video’s make the different characters come to life.
On the sides of the box you can listen to different storylines in each room.
The installation is now part of the collection of the museum.
