Childrens’ experience at Scheepvaartmuseum, Amsterdam

  • Under: Museums

For the Scheepvaartmuseum (maritime museum) in Amsterdam we designed and created a childrens’ experience. With use of a historic boat we wrote a story with a storyboard, which was filmed, edited and projected onto the boat and its background. This makes it look like the characters are actually in the boat and the boat is in different surroundings.

While the children also had to wait for the movie a waiting room had to be created for both the children and their parents. We started with a fully decorated underwaterworld using moving jellyfish, coral and lots of mirrors. Then we added beanbag is the shape of shells. The final touch were the fish-costumes children could put on and walk around the waiting area. Fun for both the kids and there parents!

The waiting room was transformed into an underwater world.

Within the waiting room children could put on these fish-suits and become part of the underwater world.

The fish-suits did not only make the children smile, also the parents were very pleased by the sight.

The holographic movie was projected onto an historic boat and its background by multiple projectors. Here you see a part of the storyboard I made.

We made a simple collage to show the waiting room with al the mirrors and decoration and the screening area with the ship.
